About Us

Why this Site?

TourDirecting.com is a place where professional tour directors can connect, share and help one another.

The original inspiration for the site was the Commentary Bank.  One of the biggest challenges of being a tour director is finding great commentary.  Ideally there would be time to visit locations, do lots of research, speak to locals, and find things out yourself -- but who has the time?

The best source of commentary -- besides collecting the information yourself -- is the experienced tour director.   But because there is no real reason for tour directors to put it all down in writing, learning from their experience often requires many hours of briefings, something not always practical or possible.

Hopefully the Commentary Bank will change all that by creating a place where tour directors willingly share what they know to help one another, and in return, they gain from other’s experience.

An extension of the Commentary Bank is the Forums section where Tour Directors can share  tips and advice relating to all aspects of tour directing and life on the road.  It's also a place to connect with old friends, meet new ones, and share stories.

The Tour Tools section is a natural extension of the Commentary Bank, creating a place where TDs can share recommendations for what they find to be the best books, music, video and more, to use on the road.

Because web sites can provide an overwhelming amount of information, the On the Road section was created with the hope that it would be a place to find a summary of the “best of” the rest of the site, as well as links to the best of the web, relating to tour directing.

The Tours and Income section will give tour directors ideas for finding work and earning more on the road.

It is our hope that this site will make Tour Directors' lives easier and help all of us do our jobs better.  We hope you find TourDirecting.com helpful and that you can help spread the word and tell other tour directors about it.  We value all ideas and suggestions, so if can think of any way in which it might be better, or if you care to share your feedback of what is already here, please don’t hesitate to email us at info@tourdirecting.com

Sincerely,

Sam and Theresa Cohen

About Us
Sam Cohen has been a tour director since 1988.  Theresa Cohen since 1996.  The met on the road in 1996 and got married in 2001.  In 2002 they had a girl named Julia.

Sam primarily works as a web designer and developer these days.  TourDirecting.com is the result of combining both of his careers and a way for him to stay in, and give back, to Tour Directing. Both Sam and Theresa would like to go back on the road eventually, perhaps leading tours for couples with children?
